Archipelago, supported by Fairweather Architecture, have designed the proposal for one of Australia’s largest rail-oriented urban redevelopments. A re-imagining of NewsCorp Australia’s 4ha site in Bowen Hills, Millennium Square boldly positions the largely brownfield site as the New Knowledge Media Hub for Queensland.
Envisioned as both an extension of the Brisbane CBD and a highly desirable lifestyle and residential precinct, the $2 billion Millennium Square development is slated to become the new digital media capital of Queensland. The revitalised precinct will include a commercial tower housing NewsCorp offices and other private technology, media, and knowledge enterprises, as well as a state-of-the-art Media Innovation Centre.
In addition to its commercial offerings, Millennium Square will also boast residential towers, a retail centre, dining and entertainment facilities, and abundant public green space. New people-oriented streets, generous public realm, and a 1ha garden square set up the remaking of this space into an active retail, leisure and living precinct that supports an important new knowledge employment centre.
‘Finally, there is vision and impetus to remake the heart of Bowen Hills into the vigorous, active urban centre this important rail node has long deserved. We are delighted to be working with NewsCorp Australia and Pricewaterhouse Coopers, and are pleased to have their support to lead the design for such a critical piece of the city’s growth.’
