Parklands wins Excellence in Urban Design Awards

The Parklands Project has won the Excellence in Urban Design Award and the Helen Josephson Award for Urban Design Leadership at the 2017 Gold Coast Urban Design Awards.

Established in 1998, the Gold Coast Urban Design Awards is a prestigious biennial event celebrating excellence in urban design in the City of Gold Coast. The 2017 Award ceremony was held on Monday 13 November, during the 10th International Urban Design Conference.

The Parklands Project was awarded the 2017 Excellence in Urban Design Award, as well as the Helen Josephson Award for Urban Design Leadership. The Excellence in Urban Design Award is bestowed upon projects that represent highest gold standard of design excellence amongst all submitted entries. The Helen Josephson Award commemorates influential Gold Coast architect and urban designer Helen Josephson, and is awarded at the discretion of the Jury Chairperson and panel.

All entries were judged against the 15 Qualities of Successful Urban Places; including connectivity, adaptability and versatility, safety, environmental sensitivity, human scale and needs, sustainability, and community enhancement. The jury panel praised Parklands as a thoughtful and complex project, and commended the detail, clarity, and skillfulness of the design.

Archipelago is honoured to have been recognised by the 2017 Gold Coast Urban Design Awards jury panel, and we congratulate our project partners ARM, Arkhefield, Lat27, and Grocon on their exceptional efforts in bringing the Parklands Project to life.
