The announcement of Victoria Park as the centrepiece of Brisbane’s 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games is a milestone for the city - it also represents the culmination of over six years of advocacy, design, and unwavering commitment to best-for-city outcomes by Archipelago.
For our founding director, Peter Edwards, this is a particularly proud moment. The journey to this outcome has spanned two governments, three premiers, and two 100-day reviews, navigating challenges and leading the public debate to ensure the best possible legacy for South East Queensland.
Since 2018, Archipelago has engaged with government, industry, institutional, and community leaders to advocate for a vision-led master plan for Brisbane’s future. Our Brisbane BOLD 2032 Vision has shaped thinking around how the Games infrastructure can be leveraged to propel Brisbane 30 years forward, transforming the city through urban renewal, world-class sports infrastructure, sustainable parklands and the solidification of the city’s knowledge economy hub. The vision meets the immediate needs of the Games, while addressing current critical urban challenges, ensuring long-term legacy benefits for the community.
“This is about more than the Olympics and Paralympics—it’s about creating a city that is uniquely competitive, economically dynamic, and deeply connected driven by a unified vision and a compelling global narrative we will take to the world.” Peter Edwards
The integration of a 63,000-seat stadium and the National Aquatics Centre within the Victoria Park precinct unlocks extraordinary opportunities. Combined with the Brisbane Athletes’ Village at the RNA Showgrounds in close proximity, this strategic co-location affirms the critical role of integrated city-making in ensuring lasting legacy outcomes. Placing these venues alongside QUT, the Herston Health Precinct, and major transport links, creates a world-class hub for knowledge, health, sport, and innovation—one that will continue to shape the city long after the Games.
Archipelago is honoured to collaborate with Australia’s peak aquatic sports organisations- Swimming Australia, Diving Australia, Water Polo Australia and Artistic Swimming Australia in establishing and progressing the vision for the National Aquatics Centre (NAC). The NAC will be Australia’s leading aquatics venue, integrating high-performance excellence with grassroots accessibility and major event capabilities. It represents more than just infrastructure; it is a strategic investment in Australia’s sporting future, providing a space to inspire participation, nurture talent, and will ensure Queensland’s aquatic sports thrive for decades.
As we move into the next phase of implementation and procurement, Archipelago remains committed to working with all stakeholders to deliver the best possible outcome for Brisbane and Queensland.
We welcome the bold commitment of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Infrastructure Delivery Plan. Let’s build on the momentum we have all created to truly shape Brisbane’s future - a city that thrives long beyond 2032.
