The single span bridge is the first of its kind in Australia

Archipelago, along with Bonacci Infrastructure were commissioned by the City of Parramatta to design and construct a pedestrian and cyclist bridge across the Parramatta River at Alfred Street.

Located strategically between Western Sydney University and the Parramatta CBD, the Parramatta Pedestrian Bridge is envisioned as a prominent local landmark, and an active gateway to the city.

The diagonal arch bridge is an elegant single span centred on the visual and navigable channel of the Parramatta River, and is the first of its kind to be designed and constructed in Australia. The design respectfully considers the visual setting from all angles towards and away from the bridge, and provides an ever-changing structural form harmoniously integrated within the surrounding landscape.

The bridge will maximise access to and from the surrounding street network, whilst simultaneously promoting a smooth, joyful journey and user safety through environmental design. The design balances aesthetics and quality of the user experience with buildability, ease of maintenance, construction and whole of life costs.
