A new golf shop for The Brisbane Golf Shop, redesigned and rebuilt after 2023 fire.
Archipelago had the pleasure of working with The Brisbane Golf Club to redesign their previous building, bringing to life the clubs vision for the next chapter of one of Australia's oldest golf clubs.
Archipelago Architects were commissioned in December 2023 to design and document a new building to quickly restore operations to the club, while integrating the multiple challenges of approvals, heritage considerations and stakeholder concerns.
The new building, rebranded as the “Golf Shop”, comprised a single storey building of about 400m2, contained within the same general footprint of its predecessor. The design needed to visually complement the existing historic clubhouse, while facilitating future aspirations of the clubs retail and golf operations and the requirements of the professional golfers managing the space.
Coordinating structure and services engineering, Archipelago successfully integrated the new building into its existing surrounding landscape architecture and facilitated the functional requirements of human and vehicular movement patterns.
What were the challenges?
The primary challenge for this project related to urgency while leading and communicating project requirement understanding and expectations. This was managed by rapid informal communication channels and backed by the project leaders pre-existing understanding of golf clubs in general, The Brisbane Golf Club and its operational use and culture.
What were our solutions?
Archipelago Architects proactively and quickly resolved and facilitated service agreements, concept designs and planning and heritage approvals. Detailed design and documentation followed quickly and effectively, allowing tenders to be called via the Project Manager ahead of programme. Archipelago assisted in tender review, for construction documentation and construction stage support.
How did we add value?
Archipelago’s key value to this project lay in comprehensive understanding of the client, rapid service delivery without diminution of quality, and excellent communication and rapport with all participants.
A key takeaway from this project is assurance that with clear communication and direction, tight timelines need not compromise quality. The building was planned, approved, designed and constructed inside 12 months. An extraordinary achievement in the current market.
