A new era for youth mental health support on the Gold Coast.

Located within the Proxima building in the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct in the Yugambeh language region, this 1,400-square-metre fitout provides a purpose-built home for the Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS), delivered by Gold Coast Health. The facility brings together multidisciplinary teams in a safe, flexible, and welcoming environment that supports the mental health and wellbeing of young people and their families.

Our team has developed a tailored design approach that places staff and consumer safety, trauma-informed care, and emotional well being at its core. Designed in close collaboration with clinicians and stake holders, the fitout features a clear and intuitive layout with strong emphasis on privacy, flexibility, efficient workflows, and connection to nature. Breakout areas, consultation rooms, group therapy spaces, and staff zones are seamlessly integrated - enabling a variety of therapeutic interactions while upholding personal and cultural sensitivity. Staff and consumer wellbeing guided every aspect of the design process.

The interior design draws inspiration from the surrounding Gold Coast landscape, incorporating natural materials, soft curves, and a calming palette of deep blues, coral tones, and sea greens—evoking the journey along the Nerang River from the sea to the hinterland.

The result is a thoughtfully designed, calming environment that balances clinical functionality with warmth and humanity—supporting the diverse needs of young people and the professionals who care for them.
